Energy Conservation

The increase of our manufacturing operations has resulted in an increase in electricity needs to meet those demands. Our energy conservation efforts include using variable frequency drives, efficient air compressors and chillers, LED lighting and state-of-the-art lighting controls. In addition, approximately 36% of our annual global electricity consumption is sourced from alternative energy sources, including solar panels, cogeneration systems, a geothermal system and wind power.

Utilizing Alternative Energy Sources

In 2022, approximately 36% of the electricity powering our facilities that support our manufacturing operations globally came from alternative energy sources.

Reducing Our Reliance on Utility Grid Electricity

From 2021 to 2022, we nearly maintained our global utility grid consumption per square foot, despite a 13.5% increase in production.

Powering Our Facilities with Solar Energy

Applied Medical generates solar power at its corporate headquarters in Southern California and its European headquarters in Amersfoort, the Netherlands. Our solar power generated over 4.4 million kilowatt-hours of electricity in 2022, providing about 10% of our global electricity needs.

Producing Alternative Energy with Cogen

Our cogneration system, utilized in one of our manufacturing facilities, generated 6.5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity in 2022 to meet approximately 15% of our total electricity needs. In 2023, we will be installing additional cogeneration systems in select Southern California facilities.

Utilizing Renewable Energy

Our manufacturing facility in the Netherlands is powered by 100% renewable energy, including wind and geothermal sources.
